Working on an AoS novel (poor, poor Article 29... it will be violated a lot)
So I'm writing an AoS-themed novel, and uploading the chapters here: aos_novel It's about a love triangle (well... actually a love square) aboard HMS Hyacinth, a seventy-four, on the misty Baltics. Lots and lots of angst, hidden desires and one of the participants being chaotic evil, intrigue, betrayal and that kind of stuff. I need to do something with the Object Of Desires, his goodness begins to annoy me. Worse, I love my villain to death. :D He's such a malicious SOB. | | Friday, October 30th, 2009 | 4:15 pm [line_sal]

OT: I'm looking for girls/women who wanna write for a new Journal
Hey all, So, I've started a journal. The Girly Journal for Girls (Couldn't think of a better name...lol), and now I'm looking for girly girls, or girly women, who are interested in writing articles for the journal. It will be on a strictly volunteer basis (unless it becomes so popular that people actually wanna advertise in it, which would then mean we might be able to get paid, lol) What I want are: - People who are interested in writing reviews, whether it be TV shows, movies, music, book or whatever. - People who want to write essays discussing topics they find interesting, and it can be pretty much anything. - People who can come up with great ideas for other things we can have on the journal. The possibilities are endless. So if you, or a friend of yours, is interested in doing a little writing, please contact me at line @ perfect-bloom.com and let me know what you are interested in doing. :-) I hope to hear from some of you! And please feel free to spread the word about this journal. This is the address for it: http://girly.perfect-bloom.comHugs, Line | | Monday, December 31st, 2007 | 9:46 pm [gryphons_lair]

Hi everybody.. new member here.. i'm not entirely sure what this community focuses on..(please don't hurt me!) But i've had trouble finding help for my story that i've been writing, it's focused arounds ships and sailing and such (and there are cannons!), and inspired by master and commander, though not based upon it.. (i haven't read any of the books but i have seen the movie- if this some how strays too close to one of the books let me know.. and i do plan on reading them eventually) Anywho i've been writing this story for a while, focusing around the navy and pirates in the mid-1700's, it's not very historically accurate, though i do make attempts! And i've been looking for constructive criticism because my friends don't really give me any, it's not really fan fiction of any sorts so i suppose i've been looking in the wrong places.. but i figured i'd post it here and see what you all think.. it's just the beginning of what i've written and any/all constructive criticism is welcome, if you want I'll post the rest too, or give yall a link. -Is it too goofy? -Not goofy enough? -Not realistic enough? -Not descriptive enough, too descriptive? -Too segmented? -other? Title: Piratey Type Story (until i come up with a better name) Author: muffinflavored Genre: Action/Adventure Rating: PG-PG-13 Summary: Starts with an introduction to the main character, giving a bit of background. Which goes into chapter one, the crew spots a french ship and pursue it, leading into a battle. ( Read more... ) Current Mood: hopeful | | Friday, October 1st, 2004 | 7:03 pm [gryphons_lair]

Some inspiration
This community's been terribly dead of late. If we're aiming for a wig abuse revival, how about a cannon fic revival too! I'm sure I could find a willing lieutenant or two around here... Anyway. A couple weeks ago commodorified and damned_colonial and prairiedaun and lasergirl and I all went to Kingston, ON. One of the things we did was tour Fort Henry and watch them fire the cannon. It's not quite the same as a ship, I know, but they are firing at an imaginary ship, and at least in Hornblower, the navy boys do find themselves on land rather a lot... Baby Cannon
Wow, this community's been pretty slow. The last entry was May!! It's cannon-spotting season, and to add to the joy I have one of my very own to share with you. ( It's very teeny... ) | | Sunday, May 9th, 2004 | 7:06 pm [damned_colonial]

Cannon tour of Kingston
Just got home from a cannon tour of Kingston, Ontario with lasergirl. We took lots of photos of lovely lovely cannon,
most dating from the early 19th century.
( Pics behind the cut )
More pics here
including lots of close-ups of the various things engraved on the
barrels, and a whole long rambling post about cannons and fortifications and
stuff over in my LJ.

Nine Pounder!!
Today's walk about Toronto yielded this little puppy, a nine-pounder (throwing a 3-pound ball 1400 yards, I read on the plaque) in Artillery carriage. It was used in the Battle of Waterloo, date of manufacture circa 1813. It currently resides outside the Canadian Military Institute on University Ave at Dundas. Very nice patina! ( ...one picture... )There are many cannon around Kingston, which is where I'm going next, so I'll post pictures of them when I've got them. ARRRRR. | | Monday, April 12th, 2004 | 2:54 pm [damned_colonial]

Cannon pics
Since pewtergryphon was good enough to post the pic of the
cannon by the Horse Guards parade site, I thought I would post a couple
of pics I took of the cannon on the walls of Quebec City.
( Two large pics behind the cut )
Taken a couple of years ago when I went there for a few days between
Christmas and New Year. Pretty though they are, I think they might have
been a bit cold for, um, kissing.

GIP 2 of 3 (or more?)
Now that I've finally figured out how the Happy New Macintosh wants me to do it, I've grabbed and added damned_colonial's Hornbower icon and swopped for the week. Well, week-ish. I'm a flake. But I'll try to remember. Still need M and C. | | Wednesday, April 7th, 2004 | 7:56 pm [gryphons_lair]

A cannon, the Admiralty, and a Pretty Lad
In 1999 a friend and I spent 11 days in England. Today, I remembered that some of those pictures might be of interest to this group. So allow me to present: A very pretty cannon that lives on the Royal Horse Guards' parade ground in London. An equally pretty laddie in uniform on a wet, drizzly February day. And the facade of the Admiralty in Whitehall. Which just happens to be only a few doors down from the Horseguards'. Current Mood: busy | 12:27 pm [damned_colonial]
